Picture my Gratitude

November 25, 2010 on 10:13 am | In The Boys | By Cindy | No Comments | Add a comment

I asked Ricky what Thanksgiving means to him and what he’s thankful for and this was his answer:   Thanksgiving means to me that the pilgrims came to America and got food from the Indians.  All the things I tell you I’m thankful for you are going to want to put on here! (think I blog too much?)

Then I asked Billy a couple of questions.

“Billy, what does Thanksgiving mean?”  Celebrate.

“Celebrate what?”  Food.

“What are you thankful for?”  Roof.  Lamp.  And a big hallway with two bathrooms.

There you go.

Now I’m going to break my own cardinal rule and blog about myself.  Here are a few of the many things for which I am thankful this Thanksgiving 2010:

holidays to celebrate

furry, loving pets

roller coasters and Kevin’s willingness

family vacations and little boy giggles

living in a modern world

guilty pleasures

good and crazy friends

Kevin's family

tiny fingers and toes

my siblings and 1970s photo shoots

my mom and dad

Snippets of our Days

Part of our Halloween Party was a fun game involving oven mitts and M&Ms.

Rusty finally wised up and just used his hands to pick up the M&Ms.

We have good cats.  They take a lot from the boys without hissing or scratching or clawing.  Billy and Rusty found some cat toys the other day and they insisted Hunter play with them.

Tommy is a mover and a shaker.  He isn’t crawling yet, but he is sliding and scooting himself all over the house.

Now he gets himself into some interesting positions.

Somedays we just hang out.  And we are okay with that.

While driving on the freeway yesterday, Ricky saw this truck:

I heard him talking to himself saying, “Wow!  That truck says Mayflower.  That truck is carrying a ship!  The Mayflower ship!”  Then he told Billy, “Billy, look!  The Mayflower is in that truck!  The pilgrims came on the Mayflower.  It is a ship.”  My thanks to his public education!

Leaf Fight 2010

This was our third annual leaf fight.  We invite the boys’ friends over (and their mom), rake up a big pile, and let them have at it.   As usual, it was a highly anticipated 15 minutes of laughing.

We have no mercy on our friends …

Tommy watched from a safe spot in the wagon.  He wasn’t quite sure what to think.  Don’t worry, son, we’ll get you next year!

Rusty is 21 months old.  He likes puzzles.

And he doesn’t need Poppy’s help to do them.  He has a pretty good hand on 24 piece inlaid puzzles.  Smaller ones he’s even better at.  I do occasionally have to put the puzzles away because Rusty enjoys dumping them, but not always at finishing them.  Not because he can’t finish them, but because he gets distracted.  I put them on the bar.  Rusty will circle the bar looking for them and saying “Piece.  Piece.”

Sometimes his distraction is a little John Wayne.

Rusty loves puzzles.

Memory of a 3 Year Old

I sometimes wonder when my kids will start remembering stuff.  You know, will Rusty be able to quote McLintock his entire life and not know why?

Today Billy let me know how far back his memory goes.  We were talking about a possible trip to Grandpa Brent and Grandma Jeanne’s house.  Ricky asked where we would sleep and Billy answered before Kevin and I had the chance,

“On the two bunk beds in the game room!”

Now we haven’t been to their grandparents’ house since June 2009.  Billy wasn’t even two and a half yet but he knew exactly where he would be sleeping.  Remembering Grandpa Brent’s pool is one thing … we have pictures of that.  Remembering the bunk beds in the game room?  Where did he pull that from?
