A bit of randomness

Our cub scout pack takes most of the summer off.  It works okay for me because that’s when I have time to do scouting stuff with the boys.  I even bought a Tiger Scout book for Tommy so that he could do scout stuff all summer, too.

Because we do so much during the summer, the first pack meeting after the summer break is fun.  My boys always receive several awards!

Rusty earned 3 belt loops and his Religion Knot this summer.  Billy earned 5 pins.  We are fans of the scout program at our house!

Kevin and I tried out a new to us restaurant for one of our date nights.  It was a cute cafe with yummy chicken fried steak and potatoes!

Kevin spent a lot of time finishing our rabbit hutch and it now has a beautiful and sturdy roof!

Bobby might like video games more than anything.  He might occasionally get his hands on two devices at once!

Tommy brought home a letter to me about his week at school.  My favorite part was his signature!

My cats find it necessary to sit on me a lot.  Sometimes they refuse to give up their claimed space and that means they get all tangled up with one another…

There you go.

Bobby turned 4

My baby is 4.  Sniff, sniff.

Bobby is a character.  We try not to spoil him, but it is hard sometimes!  He is our littlest and he’s so cute and you just want to love him!

Bobby is smart.  He knows his colors, shapes, can easily count and recognize his numbers up to 10 (and a few beyond), he can sing his ABCs and knows the letters in his name.  He loves Batman and knows all about Arkham Assylum, Gotham, Lex Luthor, the Penguin, and Batarangs.

He has no real fear, except flies.  He hates flies.  He has complete confidence in himself and his ability to find his way or do what he needs to do.  Sometimes he does think he is not capable of dressing himself – or he likes to run around undressed, I’m not sure which.

He was in a hurry to blow out his candles.  I had to stop him until we had finished singing to him!

Bobby loves to blow out candles!

Bobby is willing to eat most anything however desserts are not his favorite.  It’s hard having a child you can’t bribe with a cookie!  hahaha

He is all potty trained now, with only an occasional accident.  He loves music and singing – on his terms.  He is still squishy and fun to hug!  He wipes off my kisses and sometimes will kiss me on the cheek and then wipe off his own kiss from my face!  He has a low gravelly voice and loves playing with his brothers.

We sure love our Bobby!

Tomato Days 2017

We love our Tomato Days!

Our fun started on Saturday morning with the flag raising ceremony and all you can eat pancake breakfast.  Billy and Rusty sang in the kids choir.  Rusty is on the front row in plaid shorts and Billy is on the back row and isn’t really visible in this shot.

The fun continued on Monday starting with the parade.  All my menfolk rode on our Primary float.  Ricky originally was supposed to keep track of Bobby, which was why he was riding it, but then Kevin chose to ride at the last minute as well.

I sat with some friends and waved heartily as my boys came by!

Hooper Tomatoes – not a rotten one in the bunch!

Rusty and Tommy are on the back row in this one …

After the parade, Kevin joined a team of our friends in a bed race.  Each team pushes this same bed (we did not provide it – we are better at grammar than that) and the team with the fastest time wins.  Kevin’s team didn’t win, but they looked good trying!

We picked a bunch of zucchini and the boys picked out some to take for the Tomato Days Produce contest.  Tommy won first place for the biggest yellow squash!

Rusty took 3rd in the green zucchini category …

And Billy took 2nd in the green zucchini category!

Ricky and Billy volunteered to run some kid games for a couple of hours.  They thought that was almost as fun as playing games themselves!

We cheered at the dog races.   The three youngest found candy and prizes in a saw dust scramble.  We were hot.  Everything about it made it a good day!

Back to School 2017

The boys were ready.  It was time for school to start!

Ricky started 8th grade.

Tommy is in 2nd.

Rusty is in 3rd grade.

Billy is taking on 5th grade.

They were ready for structure (whether they knew it or not) and seeing their friends every day.

Can’t deny Bobby a photo-op …

We walked with these 3 to the bus stop.  I love that they like each other!

Waiting at the bus stop with friends is the best.  And it was adorable that those 3 little people not going to school knew to line up, too!

There they go!

A few days after brothers started school, Bobby got to go to an open house at his preschool.  He is already somewhat familiar with preschool  since he went with me to PE so much last year.

When it was finally his turn, Bobby knew exactly how to stand for his back to school picture!

His preschool class is a bit of a challenge.  It is large 12 or 14 kids and only 3 are girls.  The boys are mostly of the wiggly variety.

But that’s the nature of the preschool beast!  Bobby doesn’t care and just loves being a big boy!

And that’s all I really hope for with preschool – exposure and fun!

(I know his last name is spelled wrong.  Even though his teacher has had all 5 boys now, our last name still baffles her.  It’s never had any lasting confusion!)

End of Summer

Just a few things from our last weeks of summer …

We had an end of summer BBQ with some friends.  One of those families is the Teuschers.  Tyler is Ricky’s friend from Young Mens.  He can’t really see or hear and mostly rides in a wheelchair.  Ricky is so very good with Tyler.  That night, he pulled Tyler around in a wagon and tried to communicate with him and make sure Tyler was having a good time.  It is rewarding to see your son being so kind!

Even though it was sweltering hot, we hit Lagoon one more time before summer was over.  We found a few rides we hadn’t ridden yet.  The Tilt-A-Whirl makes me giggle!

Ricky took me on Cannibal for the first time.  It is an EXCELLENT roller coaster!  I quite liked it!

It was HOT.  We got some cool treats to try and cool ourselves.  I do love a frozen chocolate covered banana!

We did a big cleaning of the toy room with the intention of getting rid of some toys.  We just have too many and the boys are growing up.  I had the Thomas trains and wooden blocks sitting out so I could either sell them or give them away.  Guess what the boys played with non-stop for the next week?  Every single day?  Yep.  The train and blocks are back in the toy room now.  Sigh.

Kevin and I celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary.

The solar eclipse happened on our last day of summer.

We tried a couple of different ways to view the eclipse since we didn’t have eclipse glasses.

There was a weird almost eerie feeling as the eclipse happened.

We noticed it getting darker and the temperature dropping.

The paper plates worked well, but I preferred to just watch the shadows.

They were groovy!

Ricky wishes he could have been in Idaho and seen the total eclipse.  With school starting the next day and not knowing what the traffic home would be like, that didn’t happen.  However, there is supposed to be another total eclipse in several years in Texas.  Ricky told me he wants to serve his mission to Texas so he can be in the totality zone for that one.

The swing set was a wise investment.

This is my squash garden.  It produced really well this year!  Way too many zucchini!  It was fun seeing all that green all summer! (and most of it is actual desired plants, not just weeds!)

So long, summer!
