When I took Ricky in for his 3 year old doctor’s visit, the doc asked him how old he was and Ricky quickly answered “Good!” Kevin’s been working with him on how to answer “How are you?” and he gets a little confused. Once I reasked the question a couple of times, Ricky finally held up his three fingers and announced that he was “free.”
On Sunday we had a family get-together to celebrate Ricky’s birthday. As we were leaving church, we told him that everybody was coming over to celebrate his birthday and give him presents. He got so excited and shrieked “pwesents” and sang “Happy Birthday” to himself all the way home. Ricky loved all the attention and playing with “Sky-er.”
Since Ricky loves trains, I made him this train cake. I managed to keep it hidden from him until just before dinner and he was SOOO excited when he saw it. We didn’t have to eat the cars on the licorice train track, so it was still sitting out after dinner and when I went upstairs to check on Billy, Ricky was moving the cars around and playing with the train.
Ricky has finally figured out how fun it is to open presents and he is really good at it. Everyone was so generous and Ricky enjoyed the gifts, and Kevin and I really appreciate everyone’s thoughtfulness.
It was nice visiting with the family. It was a little hot, but not so bad outside in the breeze. Our swamp cooler does great until the temperature climbs up to 100! Here’s Billy and Cousin Danny. Two dang cute little boys!
Aunt Dan and Uncle Cathy (as they are sometimes called) with Cousin Danny.
We had misplaced our camera, so Aunt Cathy let us use hers. Ours was finally found hiding under the seat in the van. Here’s a picture with Billy and his Uncle Dan.
We had hamburgers and salad and chips and watermelon for lunch. Ricky just loves watermelon (and I love the way he says it). Ricky didn’t get to his watermelon until after everyone else was done and everything was cleaned up, so Kevin stripped him down to keep his clothes clean.
On Monday, Ricky’s actual birthday, we just had dinner with Grandmama. Since we’d had cake the day before, Ricky got birthday brownies and ice cream instead.
We gave Ricky our gift that evening–a Little People Ramps and Garage. He was more interested in the Snoopys on the comics I used to wrap the gift than actually unwrapping it. Once we got it set up though, he vroomed and vroomed for an hour.
Billy loves to watch Ricky and all this birthday fun was a lot for the little guy to take in.
Billy had his first cereal on Ricky’s birthday. He didn’t seem to care for it much, making faces that said, “Oh gross! What did you just put in my mouth?” But as long as he kept opening his mouth for the spoon, I kept putting it in. The second day I gave it to him, his nose began running and his eye watering almost instantly after the first spoonful–an allergy of some sort. There is a lot of pollution in the air from all the fires in Utah, so it could be that or anything, but we are taking a week or so off of cereal just to be sure.
