My mom is visiting her sister for the week, so we are dog-sitting Duchess. When my mom dropped her off, Ricky ran to greet them both and we explained that Grandmama was going away and we get to take care of Duchess. Ricky ran off and brought back a tissue with him. When we asked him why he had a tissue, he told us, “For Duchess’s tears. Here go, Duchess, wipe your tears.”
Billy is incredibly shy. He might be okay with you at a distance, but he does not take well to strangers. Even non-strangers. We see much of my family weekly and he still has issues with them–especially my brother Tim. We aren’t sure why. Sunday we had a breakthrough of sorts. Billy sat on the table next to Tim in order to eat some M&Ms. Major progress there (although he did cry about having to pick the M&M up off of Tim’s arm . . . ). The best though was that Billy started playing with him! We have a couple of Shake ’em Cars (you shake them, put them down, and they zoom off) and Billy had one with him. He adores cars and loves shaking these up and letting them go. Back and forth the two of them played for quite a while. Maybe there is hope for this shy little boy some day!
Ricky visited the barber again this weekend. He sang for him as usual, but the barber was prepared this time as well, or so my mom told me . . . the barber sang a few different songs to Ricky! I haven’t been to any of these visits, but I can just imagine the scene that those two make together.
Billy has a new love . . . rocking chairs. He loves climbing up and then making the chair rock all by himself. He has such a look of accomplishment while he’s doing it too.
Wow. Does that picture look as odd to you as it does to me? It was a really sweet one of the boys together until I uploaded it. Now it looks like two stranger’s kids and they aren’t all that cute! Odd. Ricky found this red hat of Kevin’s and decided he needed to wear it yesterday–while lounging in the really old chair and watching Sesame Street.
And this is what Ricky looks like by 4:30 when he chooses to play in his room during nap time rather than sleep (a trend that is becoming much more common than I like) . . . he was just staring off into space and there was even drool running down his chin.
Kevin replaced the faucet in the boys’ bathroom (or at least has started replacing it). It seems jobs like this take twice as long with kids–still haven’t quite figured out why, but these pictures might be giving me some idea.
Billy doesn’t say a lot of words but he does say Momma, Da, a-Ma (for grandma), and a few others. He calls my sister Suzy something like, Oozy and she loves that he has a name for her already. She also loves to raspberry on his tummy!
Uncle John got a game for his birthday that interested Ricky. I’m not sure that he understood what John was doing though . . .
I’ve been exercising a bit more than usual lately and Ricky thinks it is great fun to join in. He’s feeling the burn!
Here are the boys in their 4th of July flag shirts dog piling Grandmama. We even got Duchess involved in the pile!
