What? Kevin’s posting to the blog? What’s going on here? It’s true, you can call it what you want – a new resolution, turning over a new leaf, or just spending more time on my family. It’s a new year, I have successfully sold off my side business (hence our new e-mail addresses and blog name) and now I can devote more time to my family. Last year was a great year and I’m looking forward to the new year with the anticipation that it will be the best year yet!
We told Ricky the other day that he will be having another younger brother/baby and he took it really well. We have been working on painting the new nursery and it is turning out great. Okay, Cindy has been painting, I’ve been keeping the boys out of the room! But I did put up the bead board this morning and once it is properly trimmed, we’ll post a picture. So, anyway, the room was already going through the conversion from Ricky’s napping room to nursery and Cindy sat Ricky down and explained that the room was going to be for his new baby brother. Ricky wanted to know when they could play the three little pigs together. Ricky and I have a sibling class at the hospital this month and I can’t wait to see him light up with the idea of helping take care of his new baby brother.
This morning, Ricky woke me up at seven o’clock ready to go downstairs for his usual routine of cartoons and breakfast – I know, it doesn’t matter that I was up late for New Year’s Eve – that’s my problem! After awhile I sat down and started doing stuff on my laptop and he was playing with his toys. He looked over at me and asked if I was going to go to work this morning. I said, “No, I’m on vacation.” Ricky went back to playing and I went back to checking my e-mail. A minute later he walks up to me and with the cutest smile, he pleaded, “Poppy, can I go on vacation with you?” He has always taken the word vacation to mean a big trip, like when we went to the “vacation house” for the family reunion. I explained to him that it was just a vacation from work and that we wouldn’t be going anywhere this time.
Billy keeps getting bigger and playing rougher. I have had to pull Billy off of Ricky several times in the last few days. One time when I pulled him off, Billy admonished me, “Doppy, No! ‘ickle ‘icky!” (translation: “Poppy, No! Tickle Ricky!”) Gotta love ’em!
Ricky’s first question when I told him about his upcoming baby brother was “What’s his name?” I told him I wasn’t sure and asked what he thought we should name him. Ricky’s response? “Name him . . . Ricky!”
