My mom is retiring from her teaching job after 27 years. All those years were spent at Clearfield High School and all but a couple were spent in room S-31.
Her classroom was a retreat for me in high school – a place to do homework, get candy, get money … it is just a part of her and it is strange to think of saying good-bye to it.
The boys have enjoyed the occasional visit to Grandmama’s classroom. Ricky especially wanted to go and say good-bye since he’s spent more time there than the rest of them.
The room has changed a lot – from typewriters to monstrous computers to fairly slim monitors and keyboards.
Windows were walled in, chalkboards replaced with whiteboards, a swamp cooler unit was put in …
Very few teachers are at the school that were there when I graduated. They just don’t stay at the same school for 27 years very often.
Grandmama is a teacher and always will be…whether she has room S-31 or not.
Way to go, Falcons!
(Ha! I just noticed that her room number is now S-28 … not only have they changed everything else about her classroom, but they’ve fairly recently renumbered it as well! Well, so long S-28, too!)
