This past Sunday at church was our testimony meeting (when members of the congregation stand up and share their testimony with everyone). Ricky leaned over to me after the second or third person shared and said, “Momma, can I go up there?”
We’ve been counseled to have our children share their testimonies at home, but he seemed intent. Being the good mom I am, I said, “Ask your dad.”
Ricky persisted and Kevin decided to let him go up to the stand all by himself. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t incredibly nervous about what would come out of Ricky’s mouth!
Ricky waited his turn, put the step in front of the microphone so he would be tall enough to be seen, and then he stood there for a moment. My nervousness mounted – this is the child who once prayed in front of the whole Primary (children’s group) that another boy in his class would start behaving at church!
When Ricky finally spoke, my nervousness vanished and was replaced with, well, with pride.
He said, “I know we have a Heavenly Father or else I wouldn’t be standing up here. He can help us when we are scared or need to do hard things. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
The touching testimony of a child.
