Kevin and I made the effort and flew to Washington for Grandma Evelyn’s funeral. We were able to spend a couple of days pretty much by ourselves with Grandpa Dick and it was an incredibly good time. We laughed and listened to his stories and ate his jelly beans. Even though we didn’t get a picture with Grandpa Dick (bad me), we consider ourselves incredibly lucky for that time with him.
The funeral was wonderful. Fun stories and memories were shared about Grandma Evelyn and the feeling was one of tribute and love.
There were tears shed, of course. We will all miss her.
It is a shame that the only time we get together with extended family seems to be for funerals. We had great visits with some of Kevin’s aunts and uncles and only wish there had been more time with them.
Kevin and I took the time to visit the Seattle Temple our second day there.
It was the perfect place and time for us to reflect on the blessings of the gospel and the joy of being eternal families.
Before we said our good-byes, I made sure to take a picture of Grandpa Dick’s turkey. When we told Ricky we were going to visit at Grandpa’s house, he immediately started talking about that dancing and singing bird and asked us to see it for him. I did better. I took a picture for him.
The boys stayed with Grandmama while we were gone and I wish I could say they were thrilled to see us home. I can’t. They were asleep when we got home and Grandmama left, but the next morning after a hug and a kiss (and an egg hunt), they wanted to know when they could go over to Grandmama’s house. Hmph.
