We kind of like heritage day celebrations in our family. Street fairs and parades in small towns are great! When our whole state celebrates its heritage, I wouldn’t exactly call it small, but it is still a lot of fun and we try to make the most of it.
For Pioneer Day this year, we didn’t do much though. We did watch the Salt Lake Days of 47 Parade on tv. I don’t know if Rusty has ever paid attention to me watching parades on tv but this time he was engrossed. He wouldn’t even get dressed because he didn’t want to miss a float or band.
That evening we went to Grandmama’s house for a BBQ dinner with her and Uncle Tony. The boys got to chow down on some yummy s’mores as well.
Tommy wasn’t exactly interested in s’mores. That boy is dessert picky! Billy isn’t.
We also introduced the boys to those “Snaps” or “Pop-its!” (the white little things that you throw on the ground and they make a snap or popping noise). They thought those were pretty great! We had to hand them out one at a time because Tommy would just chuck a handful of them down – right on his own feet!
Then we pulled out the sparklers.
To Kevin’s dismay, I did encourage them to try and run around Grandma’s shed before the sparkler went out.
To Ricky’s dismay, the piece of bark he tried to light on fire wouldn’t quite light.
To my dismay, Uncle Tony taught the boys the “right” way to play with sparklers.
They weren’t very good students!
