Halloween Take 2

Halloween is just fun.  I love the leaves, the pumpkins, the costumes.  I even like the (slightly) spooky stuff.

We started our Halloween day by sending Kevin off to work in full costume.

While our intention was to have him be Dumbledore … he could be Merlin, Gandolf, or just random wizard guy.  Or sans wand and hat …

Noah, Moses, or any other number of Biblical characters.  I didn’t even realize I was making such a multi-purpose costume!

After reading the first two books of the series, Billy very much wanted to be Harry Potter for Halloween.

When it was time for his last hair cut, we even did it differently so that he would look more like Harry for Halloween (and his hair bugged me every day all month).  He was really excited that I was going to paint his hair black – partly because getting your hair colored is cool and partly because he didn’t have to wear a wig.  Billy is no lover of wigs.

Billy also loved that he and Poppy were going to be together.

Halloween made Billy jump for joy …

Ricky loves cats and he loves reading the comics, so I wasn’t really surprised at his answer when I asked what he wanted to be for Halloween.  He wanted to be Garfield.  Sigh.  There are times in your life when dressing up like a cat is a cool thing to do – I just don’t happen to think that one of those times is when you are 9 years old.  Because of that, I tried to help Ricky brain-storm another fun possibility.  We came up with Jon Arbuckle (that dude who owns Garfield).  Ricky was stoked to get a wig AND a stuffed Garfield and Odie out of it.

Ricky had a lot of fun asking people all night if they knew who he was.

My favorite costume combo was Rusty and Tommy.  These two just kill me and are so much fun, but stick them in a dog costume and a messy wig … and they are that much more fun!

I took them up to Kevin’s work and everyone ooo’d and ahh’d at Rusty’s Scooby, but when that Shaggy walked in, the smiles and laughter took over.  Seriously, Tommy was dang cute.  But oh how he hated that wig!  If it even came close to his eyes, he had a bit of a fit.  On Halloween night, as the boys trunk-or-treated with Kevin, Kevin must have adjusted the wig about a million times!

When we met one of Kevin’s co-workers, she looked at the boys and said, “So we have a bunny and … Elvis?”  Yeah.  I’ll give you the bunny part, maybe, but Elvis?  Really?

And, finally, we have Bobby and me.

And for those who might be confused, I am a concession stand worker selling a bag of popcorn – Bobby IS the popcorn in the bag.

I didn’t come up with the idea, but it was a dang good one.  He was 8 weeks old and it was chilly on Halloween.  I didn’t want to make a costume that nobody would see because he was bundled up or crammed in his stroller.  This solved both those problems!  Plus it was cute.  Very, very cute!   Although, I was told that I’d make a great looking senior citizen.  Not sure how I feel about that one.  And, I was also asked why I dressed up like my sister (who does work at a movie theater and sometimes gets the concession stand rotation – and while her hair has been many colors, I don’t recollect it ever being white).

Halloween was great.  The boys got a huge stash of candy.  Our costumes were a big hit.  Several people had no idea who Kevin and I were until we talked – all signs of a successful holiday!
