One of my favorite holidays is the Fourth of July.
I love a small town parade and park celebration.
I love a BBQ and backyard swimming. I love flag shirts and sparklers. My boys seem to enjoy all these things too.
We celebrated in West Point with my mom and family the morning of the 4th. The best part of the parade was watching the man next to us use his house hose to attack the high school football team. They’d been spraying parade watchers with water guns and when he pulled out his hose, they nearly flipped their trailer trying to run away from the water. My boys thought it was great to see the BIG boys be such scaredy cats!
At the park the little boys did a bounce house …
While the big boys (and Kevin) tried out the climbing wall. Ricky made it up higher than he has before and since he says he’s afraid of heights, I’m just glad he keeps trying. Billy made it about 2/3 of the way up before he said, “Enough!”
Then I made the boys do the roller slide. I loved the roller slide when I was little. Of course, they are way more careful about it now – the workers never let go of the sliding board – so you don’t get the excitement of nearly falling off half-way down, but it was still fun for them.
We had to stop and try out this hummer-type car at the Car Show. The boys thought it was better than a jungle gym and Ricky was ready to drive away!
After the park fun, we hosted a BBQ for some of the family and did a little swimming in the pool.
Uncle Dan got himself outnumbered in a wrestling/tickling match …
I’m really not sure who actually won.
That night the little boys went to bed while Ricky joined us on the front lawn to watch our neighbors do some fireworks and sparklers – one of the perks of being a big kid! Of course, Billy and Rusty later told us that they watched the fireworks from their bedroom window, but, you know …
I do love the Fourth!
