I enjoy being home. As much as I adore traveling, I really like being home and having a routine and being comfortable. My boys need adventure, though, so we do aim for a few field trips during the summer. Here are some we took the last few weeks of summer.
We meet with a group of moms and their children once a week for Play Group. Sometimes we are at someone’s home and often we meet at different parks. One day we went to a small park without much shade. It was about 100* that day and as we moms sat in the one spot of shade at the park, we looked at our kids and realized they had all crowded under the play set into the shade. Smart kiddos!
Another day, another park for Play Group. This park has a big fire pit. I walked over to see what Rusty was doing by the pit and, not disturbed at all, he said, “Somebody died here. Looks like it was a girl.” (please note the wig in the fire pit)
One afternoon, I decided to check out Jensen’s Nature Park with the boys.
The boys loved it. It wasn’t crowded at all, so they could walk right up to the water and look for ducks and fish.
Bobby was a bit confused by these birds that kept walking up to him. Fascinated, but confused.
Seriously? I love these boys.
No filters. This is just how beautiful it was there that day.
We will definitely head back there again and again.
No summer is complete without at least one visit to the Dinosaur Park.
Bobby isn’t checking me out in this picture – he’s looking up at the T-rex bones …
Rusty has been asking when we were going to go to the Dinosaur Park since May. As we walked around looking at the dinosaur statues, you could hear Rusty singing, “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands … if you’re happy and you know it …”
At the dinosaur dig site, Rusty used a brush to unearth a dinosaur bone. He was ecstatic! He told me, “That’s good practice for me to be a paleontologist!”
The education building was open this time and the boys enjoyed a few minutes in there coloring and doing puzzles.
I don’t think Rusty will let me wait until next summer to visit there again.
A fairly new place for us this summer was the library. We’ve been to the library before, but never as much as we used it this summer. Ricky goes through books like crazy and we hit the library about every other week.
Rusty calls it “the toy library” because not only do they pick out books there, but they get to play with the toys for a while too.
Bobby loves working the beads. Sometimes he tries to use his mouth. I discourage this.
Our end of summer field trips.
There you go.
