Even though it was still a month until Ricky’s 11th birthday, he was invited to attend the 11 year old scout overnighter in June. That meant that Kevin was going, too, since dads are required at this age.
The scouts were outnumbered by adults and from what I’m told, I’m not sure there was much difference between the two! Just three scouts went – Ricky, Hyrum, and Tyler. They went into the Uintahs near Marsh Lake. Kevin went on and on about absolutely beautiful it was there!
The boys got damp looking for frogs in the marsh land.
Ricky helped Kevin get the tent set up.
They went for some hikes and explored – a boy paradise!
Even more exciting for Ricky and Hyrum was getting to ride in the back of the pick-up truck! With all the laws on safety we have now, these boys don’t get to do this very often and they thought it was fabulous!
One of Ricky’s goals for the overnighter was to see a moose. He saw two!
It got cold at night, but campfire fun is still campfire fun!
During the night, Ricky started to not feel well at all. A fever hit him and made for a less than comfortable night.
Kevin let Ricky sleep in the next morning, so they missed out on fishing with the other scouts. Instead they took a nice long hike and really enjoyed some father/son time.
I don’t think either one missed the fishing – especially once they heard how few fish were caught!
When both guys come home telling me how we need to go camping there, I’m going to call this scout overnighter a huge success!
