My surgery and then taking care of my mom after her knee replacement, kept us housebound more than usual this summer. I did try to get the boys out and about a little bit though.
We went to Seven Peaks Waterpark with some friends in July. I’d never taken the boys to a waterpark this big before, especially without Kevin, but they were so good!
Rusty disappeared once, but he was just checking out another pool. They loved the wave pool and every time a wave pushed against Bobby, he giggled and giggled. It was delightful!
I was glad to be there with friends and I will be less anxious next time.
A lot of summer time was spent watching the bunnies. They liked to dig and dig and occasionally escape their pen. It was also really fun to find out we didn’t have 4 girls, but instead 3 boys and 1 girl. Now we have 4 its.
We tried to go to a playgroup with our friends every week. The week I was in charge, I arranged to go to a park not far from my mom’s house that has a great bike/walking trail through it.
I provided a bunch of streamers and the kids put on a bicycle parade!
It was adorable!
We do have good friends!
There were some mild attempts at potty training this summer. Nothing serious enough to stick. However, Bobby did get a terrible diaper rash one day and he didn’t want anything on his bum. I don’t do naked, so he got to wear the big boy pants until his bum felt better.
My endurance was really slow at returning post-surgery. We’d play hard and then I’d spend some time in recovery. I always had company ….
The three younger boys got to go to day camps at the Ogden Nature Center. Bobby was VERY excited to go on his day! He loved getting to carry his own back pack!
Kevin went with him and they had a good time.
We got to kitten sit for a week while our friends were out of town. Cute little, Gus.
However, cute little Gus would not let me leave one evening. It took 45 minutes of patience before I could get away without him following me. He was very persistent.
Tommy left me this surprise on my phone …
Bobby had been struggling to peddle on his own and I finally looked close enough at his bike to figure out why – his tires were completely bald! He’d try to peddle and the wheels would just spin. I got a new bike for not much more than new tires (his other bike was a garage sale bike and worked its way through 3 or 4 brothers). Tread made all the difference … he was off!
Our big pool was ruined last year by the sun and this year we only got a little one to replace it.
The boys didn’t seem to mind the downsize at all …
It was actually perfect sized for Bobby!
Our church youth group made a Book of Mormon video one evening for a big scripture carnival event. Ricky played a bad guy. He was fabulous! You can see that video HERE.
Bobby likes Batman. He’s okay with Superman, but Batman is supreme. When we play, I have to be Superman. I always lose.
My anniversary present was a totally kitschy 1980 Terry Trailer. It is brown and orange and yellow and has owl decor and I LOVE it! It isn’t perfect or new, but it fits all of us and I’m hoping for many, many family adventures in it!
Some summer days are too hot to play outside. Those days the house and especially the toy room end up looking like this. Two of those animals are not stuffed! I think they like messy inside days, too!
