October is a busy, busy month. Here’s a bit of it …
Billy made a lava rock volcano for 5th grade. We learned that Diet Coke works better than regular Coke and to cram as many mentos as you can in at once! Also, a 2 liter makes a really good explosion!
I dusted off my instrument display shelf. It is a decorative shelf above our front door that can only be reached by a tall ladder, but it makes a great place to show off our rarely used instruments! We’ve got Kevin’s trombone, my dad’s trumpet, a couple of drums, and a broken accordion from my grandpa. While the instruments were down, the boys helped themselves to forming a 5 Man Band. You can hear their lovely music HERE.
I noticed the temperature rising in our Yukon one day and so I stopped by my brother’s engine shop to have him check it for me. Our water pump had gone bad and my brother was great and willing to replace it for me. Bobby was pretty interested in the engine at first …
Then he got a bit bored and we entertained ourselves with the creeper …
October means harvest time. Lots of vegetables and grapes this year! Sometimes you have to stop picking and just eat.
October means the three middles get to wear costumes to their recital. They all went as pirates. Tommy and Rusty played in a trio and Billy played in a quartet.
You can hear them HERE.
Motivational speaker Hank Smith came to the boys’ school and gave a great lesson about being kind. “Dude, you’re crushing my chips!” was a great take away for the students to remember to say when someone is hurting their feelings. My boys have most of his CDs and so we had to get a picture. Billy had stayed home sick that day, but I took him back to school for the assembly.
I took Ricky to a neighboring junior high to see their fall play.
My oldest school friend, Shelly, was just hired as the drama teacher there and it was her first play. Ricky loved it! It was “A play about a play about a play” or something equally confusing. He talked for the next several days about it and trying to figure out what was real and what wasn’t. Two thumbs ups to Shelly!
During the boys’ Fall Break from school, we took our last chance to go to Lagoon with our season passes.
We checked out all the Halloween decorations and photo ops …
The boys all also got to pick their favorite ride for us to ride one last time. It was a cold and rainy day so we weren’t going to dilly dally!
Tommy’s ride choice was the Sky Ride. Kevin was not a fan. He rode with Bobby and when the ride paused for a good 5 minutes while we were in the middle, Kevin became even less of a fan!
The boys were a bit sad at it being our last time. We let them know that we probably would not be getting passes for next year and they gave me this wonderful pose …
The rabbits can be really cute. Especially when they find their way into the hay storage part of their hutch. This is not their home, but they thought they belonged there nicely.
And the cats think they can sleep wherever they choose. They are right.
I went with Bobby and his preschool class on a field trip to a corn maze and dairy farm not far from home. We got to take a tractor ride past all the baby calves. They’re kind of cute!
Bobby and his friend Lilly stayed together in the corn maze so they wouldn’t get lost! I thought it was cute.
There is a big slide at farm and Bobby had NO fear about going down it!
I told him to make sure he went down the middle and not too close to the edges. I MEANT the middle of each side. He took me literally and went right down the divider in the middle of the whole thing. It was a very bumpy ride! I corrected my instructions before he went down again.
There is also a corn pit. Bobby filled that pumpkin up all the way to the top, dumped it out, and started over!
I’m thankful for Bobby’s little friends!
I know I’m biased, but dang, he’s cute!
Well…usually!
Our town is the best! They have a Halloween celebration called the Hooper Haunt each year. The PTA and other community groups and members display holiday displays and there are activities and games. We helped our friends set up the PTA display this year (then we borrowed it for our Spook Alley train ride)…
This year we gave the hay ride a try. We didn’t realize it was a “spooky” hayride!
It was such fun! There was a drone with a ghost that dropped on us and a lady dressed in a pink tutu that jumped out and yelled “sooey!”
Best spooky hay ride ever!
We went out to dinner and bowling with a group of friends. Although my name is wrong (thanks bowling alley worker chick), I’m that “Sidney” and you’ll notice my score is MORE than Kevin’s. This may have been a first.
We have some good friends!
