I love Halloween. Not the gory, super scary, made of nightmares stuff. But I do love pumpkins and cute costumes and the fun of the spooky scare. The boys don’t seem to mind celebrating with me!
The boys ran our second annual Spook Alley the Friday before Halloween. We set up several spooky rooms and a small corn maze and a graveyard. We had a big fire going and hot cocoa and donuts. The weather was perfect.
Ricky invited several of his friends to come help work the spook alley.
Ricky worked the very first room and had a script about the master and the missus being out. Then the spooky phone would ring and he’d have the visitors answer it. I loved listening to him! He is such a good kid.
His friends were great and mostly kept to my rule about making the spook alley not TOO scary for little kids.
Billy loved getting to work the spook alley this year. I’d made a rule about having to be 12 but we needed him to work the mask room. He did a great job and was perfectly creepy!
We added a new feature this year with train rides. We borrowed the barrel train from our friends and had one of Ricky’s friend drive the little kids down the opposite side of the yard to see Snoopy and Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. It was a great hit until our lawn mower broke! A bolt controling the steering gave out and the train could no longer turn. Sometimes things like that happen.
There are always lots of Halloween events at school for the boys, especially costume parades. Bobby had his first. He’s the little pirate running to catch up…
He loved his toy sword but when I wouldn’t let him take that to preschool, he sneaked his little toy dagger instead. Sigh. That boy!
The night before Hallween I realized we had neglected to carve pumpkins once again. Next year. Next year I WILL remember to do that. Potato Head pumpkin parts to the rescue!
Kevin was able to dress up for work and I love that he’s willing! He chose to be Bret Michaels of Poison fame this year. The wig I ordered wasn’t the exact color I expected, but he looked EXCELLENT!
Bobby got to be part of the elementary school parade as well – walking with Pirate Billy. We also had Pirate Rusty and Hobbes Tommy (as in Calvin and Hobbes).
I love a good school costume parade!
On Halloween night, we went to the trunk or treat on the next road over. It was originally a church activity and we knew everyone there, but it has grown and now many people from the community attend as well.
Hobbes found his Calvin!
Grandmama came over to see our costumes before we left…
I went for 80s iconic pop star … Cyndi Lauper. That was a really fun costume! Of course, no one under 30 knew who I was, but I was tickled pink with it!
Our Halloween 2017 Family!
One of my favorite moments of the evening was at the trunk or treat. A car was driving in, trying to find a parking spot, and they saw us. The driver just started busting up! They were our neighbors, the Mercers. They aren’t religious at all and he is actually a highly sought after tattoo artist in Salt Lake. Bart, with tears from laughing, told Kevin, “Of all the people to dress up like that … I NEVER thought it would be YOU!” Apparently they don’t know Kevin’s wild side!
He’s such a good sport and I do LOVE giving him hair every chance I get!
There you go!
