Independence Day

We are all finally healthy (where is a really big piece of wood to knock on?) and with their renewed health the two big boys seem to have found a need for independence.

My days are filled with the precious sounds of “No, Momma!  Me do it!” and  “Me turn.  Me turn.”  My favorite and the most irritating is “No want ’em!”  This one has most recently been directed at his socks.  Billy takes after me and prefers his toes to breathe, however, it is snowing and around freezing outside–he should be wearing socks!

Ricky’s independence streak seems to be centered around our DVDs.  He’s figured out what all the buttons on the DVVD player do and he insists on being the one to push play.  This is fine when I okay his movie watching, however, he wants to watch a movie ALL THE TIME!  His morning cartoons have taken a backseat to “The Little People” movies and “Monsters, Inc.”  As I type, that monster movie is on for the third time today!  (Lest I be considered a bad mommy–he just likes to start it.  He loses interest and goes off to play with his toys after the first half hour.  So he isn’t watching as much tv as that sounds.)    We are starting to put all of our movies into a binder instead of the boxes and Ricky loves being the one to get the movies out and put them back in the binder.  (Just please don’t teach Billy how to work the zipper yet!)

On Tuesday (Mar 31, 2009), while I wiped away his milk beard (yes, beard!  no milk mustaches for this one!), Rusty broke out in a grin and then his first real giggle!  It melted my heart and I was able to record the repeat performance just moments later.  Here is a small clip:  rusty_laugh.mp3
