And then there were three . . .

Kevin’s post was brief, so I’ll give a few more details for those interested.  Monday morning, February 2, Kevin and I checked into the hospital at 6:30 am and at 9:14 am Russell Brent was born.  Of course, we aren’t going to call him that.  We are calling him Rusty.  He was 7 pounds and 1 ounce and 20 inches long.  He has fairly long hair and lots of it (for one of our kids).  His fingernails needed to be trimmed right away and so far he is a good little sleeper!   Ricky was very excited that he came early, since we weren’t really expecting him until Valentine’s Day, but Billy isn’t quite sure what to think about this intruder in his house.   We are home from the hospital now and Rusty is doing great.  Here is a bit of a picture dump:

These first few are Pre-Rusty.  Here are the boys actually sharing.  Isn’t it a lovely site?

Billy has a love-hate relationship with my Roomba Vacuum.  He loves pushing the button to turn it on, but once it is on, he often runs to Kevin or I to pick him up and keep him safe.

Sunday, Grandmama had a Super Bowl party.  Ricky, Danny, and Uncle Dan played some Hide and Seek in the back yard.  I stayed inside where it was nice and warm enjoying how cute they were through the windows.

I adore these huge flower headbands on baby girls!  I think they look like little old lady hats!  So, when I saw some for sale, I had to buy them for Baby Cate.  I think she looks adorable and she left it on all afternoon.

I think they were checking to see who had the longer tongue in this shot!

Have you ever tried taking a picture of a 4 1/2 year old, an almost 2 year old and a 7 month old?  I’m sure in some cases that would be easy, but NOT when Ricky is that 4 year old!

And then there came Rusty!  I had great plans for Monday . . . I was going to finish up all the last minute pre-baby stuff, make child care arrangements for the boys, finish Rusty’s blanket, and about 50 other things.  Instead, we had him about 10 days early!

Rusty had lots of visits his first 18 hours of life . . . Grandmama got there about 5 minutes after he was born.  Uncle Tim, Aunt Kym, and Melissa came that afternoon.

Monday evening Rusty had Aunt Suzy, Uncle Tony and Aunt Diane, our bishop and his wife, my friend Shanae and her husband, and Ricky and Billy visit him.

The boys enjoyed their fries perhaps more than seeing Rusty.

Shanae was a life saver for being able to come over at 5:30 am to stay with the boys and she helped us out again today when it took hours for me to get discharged.

Here are the boys wearing their “I’m a Big Brother” shirts from the hospital.

The boys are also holding their toy pipe wrenches whose name just happens to be Rusty (from Disney’s “Handy Manny” cartoon).  I’m not sure if Ricky thinks it is more funny or cool that his baby brother is named after a pipe wrench.

Rusty was born with the customary pinchable cheeks!  They are just doomed to get bigger!

Here we are adapting to family life already . . .

Where did we get his name?  Well, I’ve always wanted to name a daughter after my Grandma Mary, but at this point, who knows if we’ll ever get a daughter.  So, Rusty is named for my grandma’s favorite brother, Russell.  His middle name, Brent, is after his dad . . . Kevin Brent.

Don’t they look sweet together?  Kevin was wonderful during my labor–I really wasn’t very nice this time around.  Back labor, fast progressing labor, and a late anethesiologist did not make for a happy mother!

It took a long time to get me discharged from the hospital (we were waiting for the doctor), so Kevin took a little nap with Rusty.
