I like Valentine's Day

I cried on Thursday.  I know my hormones are adjusting, but it was just sad.  Ricky was so excited to go to preschool because it was the day of their Valentine Party and he had a bag full of Valentines to share with his friends.  Our friend came to pick him up and she was at the bottom of our front steps as I stood at the top.  Ricky ran down the stairs to her.  Actually, he ran down the first few steps and then tripped and fell down the rest, landing at the bottom on his face!  I felt totally helpless as he started to cry and had a bloody face.  I was thankful to see that it was just his lip (similar to a scraped knee) and not his teeth or anything worse.  I sent him off with our friend to school with a paper-towel wrapped ice cube and the beginnings of a horribly swollen lip.  He wanted to go to school so badly and he was his usual self by the time they got to the preschool, but I still felt awful.  Here he is after getting home from school.   Yesterday it was really icky looking and today he’s been picking at the scab – gross, but it does look better where the scab isn’t.  Poor boy (oh, the white is frosting from cookies at school).

Even with a swollen lip, Ricky can say the darndest things.  One morning, he walked through my bedroom to my bathroom (as he does every morning) right after getting up.  I was nursing Rusty and Ricky stopped, looked at me, and said, “Momma, is Rusty having his milk?”  I told him yes and he said, “Oh.  Thanks for letting me know,” and continued walking to the bathroom.

Another morning he was having a blue moment about something, I think it was having to share toys with Billy.  Anyway, I told him to get dressed for the day and his reply was, “Momma, remind me to be sad after I’m dressed.  I might be happy in the middle.”  The boy talks nonstop and most of it is just funny stuff!
