Fishing

Ricky’s birthday celebrations weren’t quite over.  Uncle Tony gave Ricky a fishing trip for his gift and they went yesterday.  They went to the fish hatchery where you get a guaranteed catch!

On the drive there, my brother informed me that Ricky told him story.  It went something like this:

Ricky:  There was an uncle and a boy who went fishing and on the drive there the boy told a story about an uncle and a boy who went fishing.  On the drive there the boy told a story about an uncle and a boy who went fishing …

When Ricky saw the fish in the water like this …

he thought it would be much easier to catch the fish with his hands and was sure he could.

In all they caught 4 fish, using a pole. Tony said that when they pulled the first fish out of the water and it started flipping on the line, Ricky let out some great squeals and screams, all in excitement I’m sure.

We were a bit concerned about Ricky thinking he was catching these fish for pets, but he seemed to understand the concept.  They took the fish to the lady who, as Ricky put it, “chopped them up and threw the bones away” and he doesn’t seem any worse for it!  And, for anyone wondering, Tony was strongly encouraged to take all the fish to his home with him, so I have no idea if they were any good!

Afterwards, Uncle Tony wanted to take Ricky for a drink and asked what he liked to drink.  Ricky told him “chocolate” which seems odd.  Tony probed further trying to understand and Ricky explained that the chocolate drink he likes is “at the place with the swirly ice cream cone on the cup.  and words on the cup.  and a strawberry in the blender.”  Yeah, they ended up at Artic Circle, which was not where Ricky had in mind, but because it is the “park that is inside,” he was okay with it.  Where Ricky did mean was Jamba Juice.  You know, the place with words on the cups!

Billy.  Billy, Billy, Billy.  He was eager to go along on the adventure, but we had to remind him that it was Ricky’s turn to have fun with Uncle Tony.  He put on Ricky’s shoes and shouted “fishing, fishing, fishing” over and over.   He then played fishing using the fish tank as his pond and the back of a tow truck and its cable as his fishing pole.

I think he gave a very accurate description of a Jamba Juice cup, although I would not have figured it out and would have ended up somewhere else.

We ended up having some of the trout tonight at Cindy’s mom’s house. Tony brought some over and cooked it on the BBQ along with the burgers. He gave Ricky a small piece and I helped him with it. Since he is very picky I was surprised that he wanted to try it. After the first bite, he didn’t want anymore, so I told him it was my turn. After my bite, I offered him another bite, which he took as well and then said, “I’m done.”
