A Story

Once upon a time there was a happy family who generally got a good night sleep.  One week this began to change.

One morning Little Boy woke up with a raspy voice that was so cute and so sad all at once.  A couple of days later, his nose began to drip.

One morning Baby Boy woke up with red polka dots on his tummy and back that looked like a mosquito spent the night in his jammies.  His nose started to drip that day too.  The polka dots liked to come and go.

One morning Big Boy woke up and said, “I don’t want to live with Little Boy any more.”  Big Boy spent a lot of thinking time in his room.

One night during the drippy noses week, the stars fell out of alignment and no one slept, especially Big Daddy and Big Momma.  Each little boy woke up several times with tears.  Baby Boy and Little Boy woke up because they didn’t feel well.  Big Boy woke up because he’d had bad dreams.  The night was long, but the next day was even longer because everyone was tired and cranky.

One night a couple of nights after the stars fell out of alignment, Baby Boy slept even worse.  Now he was wheezing and his cough sounded like a barking seal.  Big Daddy gave him a blessing and the next morning Big Momma called for a doctor’s appointment.

One day after the barking seal night, Big Momma took Baby Boy and Little Boy to the doctor.  She was a nice doctor.  It was a long visit.  Little Boy had an ear infection in his right ear.  It was his sixth infection in the last 12 months.  If he gets another one, Nice Doctor said they may have to start talking tubes or some other treatment.  Baby Boy also had an ear infection, but his was in his left ear.  Nice Doctor said that the virus that started the cold that led to the ear infection had settled in Baby Boy’s lungs.  They got to meet the Nebulizer.  The medicine made Baby Boy breathe better so the Nebulizer came home with them.  It’s a funny machine.

One night, not so long after all of this started, everyone was sleeping.  Well, except Big Daddy and Big Momma who had to wake up every few hours to give Baby Boy his medicine.   Tonight the stars should line up right again.
