Fences

The boys have their rules for backyard play.  One of them is that they are not allowed to climb on the fences.  Yesterday, we were all outside and Kevin wanted to have a chat with our neighbor.  Instead of talking through the crack of our rickety wooden fence, Kevin stepped up on a cross beam to see over the top.  Billy was right next to him and was quick to say, “Poppy!!  We don’t climb fences!”  and to repeat it and repeat it and repeat it.  Kevin finally told him that he was the poppy and it was okay and sent Billy off to play.

A little while later, Kevin stepped back up to talk to our neighbor again and this time it was Ricky to chastise him, “Poppy!!  We don’t climb fences!”   To get his son to leave him alone, Kevin told him that he was an adult and adults could climb fences!  Ricky came running to me and matter-of-factly told me, “Momma, adults can climb fences.  That’s okay!”  Thanks, Kev!
