Birthday Week – The BIRTHDAY!

We heard Ricky wake up on his birthday.  We heard him excited to open his door and see how it was decorated.  He loved his streamers, #6, and especially his “crystal balls” (some people call them disco balls, but whatever works).  I told him to pose by his door and got this:

I don’t know what’s up with that.  I was much happier with his second pose.

It was at breakfast that he began telling Billy that he was his birthday slave.  The day was all about Ricky.  He and Billy didn’t even have to pick up toys as part of the fun (I regretted that choice the next morning).

Cousin Danny and Uncle Dan came up to celebrate with us.  The boys played and played.  They love their cousin.  Later in the afternoon, the two big boys, Kevin, Dan, and Danny went to the Air Base Museum.  They got there just before it closed, so the boys ran around looking at all the planes.  It was probably the best way for them to do it!

They loved being able to touch and crawl around the planes.

Did I mention that they RAN from plane to plane?  I meant literally.

A good time was had by all.

Then we went to Grandmama’s for a pizza dinner and a bit of cake – ninja style!

I asked Ricky what he wished for and he just smirked and told me, “I can’t tell you!  Then it won’t come true!”

An old (or Olds, as the case may be) tradition is to hide pennies in the birthday cake to be found upon eating.  Usually the number of pennies corresponded with the birthday child’s age.  I decided it was time to introduce Ricky to the fun of biting into a foil wrapped coin.  Due to inflation, I used quarters.

Danny was very excited to get his money, too.

We had to do a bit of “Hey, Billy!  What’s that over there?” to slip a quarter in his cake.

Rusty got no money.  Rusty got very cake-y anyway.

Sometimes a different angle helps you get a better feel for how much Rusty enjoys his food.

Tommy just patiently waited.  He knew he wasn’t getting any cake or any money this time!

It was a great day and could have been the end to a great birthday week … but not for this kiddo.   His birthday week got an extension!
