What's in your Wallet?

Or your pocket, if you are six?

If you are Ricky, I should ask you this question WAY more often than I do!

He came home from school Monday complaining that his pants kept falling down at school and when he lifted up his shirt to show me, yes indeed, there were his underpants (clean, thank you very much).    Ricky is a skinny little thing and has a problem with pants, so I wasn’t terribly surprised.  I try to buy him adjustable waist pants (with hidden elastic that can be tightened using a couple of hidden buttons) so I assumed I just needed to tighten the pair he was wearing.  As I started tightening, I noticed that he was wet up to his knees.

“Were you puddle jumping?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said.  I thought I had my answer.  Pants a little big around + heavy wet denim = saggy pants.

I told Ricky my theory to which he said, “Or it could be all these pine cones in my pocket!”  Ricky then took somewhere from 20 to 30 pine cones out of his pockets and added them to his collection.  Yup, son.  It could have been the pine cones.

That wasn’t my only surprise.  Once the pine cones were taken care of, Rick showed me his new pet.

As I was getting a jar and some leaves for this new little lady-bug-type thing, I asked him where he found it.

“On the playground at last recess.  I’ve been saving him in my pocket!”

You knew I’d see this and immediately ask my dad what kind of bug that is, right? Well, I did. Here’s what he said:

“That looks like the Crioceris duodecimpunctata, the spotted asparagus beetle. There is a lot of wild asparagus where you live.”

    Here’s the link he included.

Just in case you were wondering…

The thought did occur to me that you might find out what kind of bug it was … Ricky will be tickled. That is, if his little friend is still alive!
