Hogle Zoo

The boys had a Monday off from school a couple of weeks ago, so Kevin took a break from work and we all went to the zoo.

I’m not a big zoo goer so I know it was Rusty’s first time at the zoo and quite possibly Billy’s first time as well.

It was a little chilly and there was a threat of rain, but that just made it so there were very few others at the zoo.  The boys didn’t have to fight a crowd to see the animals.

We got there just as the animals were being fed so they were all out and easy to see.

Rusty and I enjoyed the monkeys the most.  He does the cutest “oo oo oo ah ah ah” sound when he tells you what a monkey says!

The big monkeys (primates, apes, gorillas, whatever you call ’em) would come right up to the glass and look back at us.  That is just cool.

The only baby animal we saw was the baby elephant.  Rusty kept pointing and saying “phant!  phant!”

What was the neatest animal Ricky saw at the zoo?  The peacock.

Really, son?  A peacock?  A whole herd of them live by Grandmama’s house and we see them all year long.  That was your favorite animal?  Okay.

By the time we got to the giraffe house, the boys were starting to get a bit chilly.  Billy didn’t really feel like posing any more.

On our way back to the parking lot, we found the “see what animal you weigh as much as” scale.

Kevin, the three boys, and the backpack (Kevin wanted me to be sure to mention that it was kind of heavy) weighed in at 273 pounds.

That’s the same as a newborn elephant.

Then Tommy, the double stroller, and I hopped on.

That number does nothing for my self esteem.

How do my monkeys measure up?

The boys had a great time and so did Kevin and I.  I give the zoo two thumbs up (this time).
