Rusty Says …

Some of Rusty’s latest sayings:

“Right now!”  –  As hard as it is for me to admit, my 2 year old does forget to say please.  “Momma, open this gate right now!”  “Momma, milk!  Right now!”  “Momma, Tommy crying!  Right now!”  I’m pleading innocence and claiming Kevin taught him that phrase.

“Oh, okay.  Right.” – If you point something out to him or teach him something, Rusty will pull this one out.  Kevin pointed out that Rusty’s shoes needed to go in the basket and he said, “Oh, okay, Poppy.  Right.”  Typing it doesn’t do it justice.  Just imagine telling a two-year old something and having him agree with you and let you know that, indeed, you are correct.  “Why, yes, Father, you are correct.  Those shoes do belong in the basket.”

“Stop it!” – This phrase doesn’t come out much but when it does he means it!  Last week he finally got a summer hair cut (his hair was so long).  My friend came into the house and Rusty froze.  He looked her up and down and then started inching out of the room – never taking his eyes off of her.  The hair cut itself was torture.  Rusty was crying so much that poor Tommy on the floor started crying, not that he knew why, but Rusty was making such a fuss that there MUST be a reason to cry.  I was holding Rusty’s arms because when I let go, he’d swing his hand at my friend and whine, “stop it!  stop it!”  Thankfully, my friend is good at it and finds the whole interaction endearing.  It did cost me 3 jars of pepper jelly, though!

“Yep!”  –  My favorite of his positive responses.  Ask him if he had sweet dreams, “Yep!”  Is dinner yummy?  “Yep!”  Does he want to go outside?  “Yep, yep, yep!”

“Nasty!”  –  This is another one I attribute to Kevin.  While eating out with my mom the other day, I gave Rusty one of the noodles I’d ordered for Tommy.  It was just a plain piece of penne pasta with some cheese on it.  Rusty put it in his mouth, took it back out, looked at it and said, “Nasty, Momma. Nasty.”
