more of the darnedest things

One day this week the boys had hot dogs with ketchup and apples with peanut butter for lunch.  After eating, they got an Oreo cookie.   I gave Billy his and he asked, “Momma, can I have some more ketchup and peanut butter to dip my cookie in?”  I then told him that we did not dip our cookies in ketchup … EVER!  It took some convincing, but I finally got him convinced that it is disgusting.

I thought.

That night Grandmama brought dinner.  We had pizza.  Billy asked for some cabbage to dip it in.  (this boy loves his ranch dressing)  Grandmama also brought a dessert pizza, so we sliced in and passed it around.  Billy, being Billy, asked for more cabbage for his dessert.  I reminded him about our earlier discussion and asked him to tell Kevin what we’d learned.

I said, “Tell Poppy why we don’t eat cookies with ketchup.”

Billy reluctantly said, “Because it is disgusting.”

Ricky added, “But it isn’t to Billy.”

And Billy went right ahead and finished off the “cabbage” on his plate with his s’mores dessert pizza.

Really … a mother can only do so much.
