Fashion Forward

Billy cares more about clothes than the other boys.  Even when he was Rusty’s age, he cared more about clothes.  Maybe even back at Tommy’s age.   He just likes clothes and socks.  Billy loves socks.

In the past, I’ve picked out Billy’s clothes for him most days – especially days when he was going to be around people, like preschool or family outings.  At the minimum, I would pick out denim pants/shorts and then let him do whatever he pleased after that.  Everything goes with denim, right?

This summer Billy did a lot more of his own clothes picking.  Some days, I would beam at how adorably he’d put pieces together.  Some days, I’d make him change and remind him that we do not wear sweatshirts and sweat pants when it is 100+ degrees out and we only have a swamp cooler cooling our house.  And some days, he created looks like this …

… and he would be so proud of himself that he would ask for a picture.

That is actually a mild outfit.  Those bright orange shorts were paired with lime green, red, and orange shirts at times this summer.  I tried not to care.  I succeeded…most days.
