Potty Training

The day after Thanksgiving we began what I still consider a crazy and intense attempt to potty train both Rusty and Tommy in 3 days.

Rusty was more than ready – he was just being stubborn.  Tommy probably wasn’t ready, but the book said he was plenty old enough, and why would I want to repeat the attempt in 6 months?  Much like a band-aid, let’s just rip and get it over with.

The best part was seeing these little legs all the time …

It was too cold to have bare legs, so out came the baby leg warmers.  Worked like a charm!

Kevin is the better of us when it comes to potty training.  He runs kids to the toilet and I do lots and lots of laundry.  It is a fair division of labor.

I can’t say that I buy the 3 days thing.  Rusty was fully trained by day 4 and Tommy appeared fully trained by day 5 or 6, however he’s regressed a bit (back to that whole he wasn’t really ready thing I mentioned earlier).  While laundry has increased, it has been really nice to not be buying diapers and pull-ups like before (although I recently started putting Tommy back in pull-ups at night – I just couldn’t handle THAT much laundry!).

Would I say I’m glad we did it the way we did?  Eh.  I don’t know.  It is nice having Rusty fully trained and, when Tommy really is ready, I think he’ll suddenly be fully trained as well.  The worst is behind us and that is always nice.

And I get to see really cute little underpants on really cute little bums … and they give really cute group hugs to their brothers!
