Out of the House

About a month ago, I was tired of being cooped up and declared a field trip.  First stop … Kevin’s work.

The boys are very familiar with Kevin’s work and enjoy going there.  I enjoy a visit even more now that Kevin has been promoted – Manager of IT, thank you very much.  What that means is an office (with a window) and no more trying to contain the kids in a cubicle.  Kevin has a door!

It’s the little things in life that count, you know.

The adventure continued with us stealing Kevin away to go out to dinner.  We don’t eat out with the kids often.  Not because they misbehave or because we don’t want them to experience life or whatever, but simply because taking 4 boy out to eat can be expensive!  It is much easier (and cheaper) to grab Subway or McD’s if I’m not feeling up to cooking.

However, I had a particular experience I wanted to share with the boys this night.  Ricky and Billy had earned “Book It” rewards from school.  This is a reading program that is partnered with Pizza Hut and goes back a long time.  Kevin and I both remember earning Book It rewards in school and we’ve talked about how fun it was to go to Pizza Hut and eat at the restaurant.  It is one of those fun memories I have with my parents and I wanted to try it with my boys.

Yeah, well, there aren’t very many Pizza Huts that have an eat in restaurant any more.  According to the lady on the phone, there are exactly 2 in our area … Brigham City and Tooele.   I don’t really consider either of those cities “in our area” but Brigham is only 30 minutes away or so, so that’s where we went.

And my desire was satisfied.  The boys thought it was so cool to be eating little individual pizza at the restaurant.  We sprinkled on the Parmesan cheese and showed them the jukebox.  It all looked exactly as Kevin and I remembered – even though the two of us never even ate at the same Pizza Hut.

Driving half an hour to get pizza when we could get the same stuff delivered or pick it up 5 minutes from our house might sound crazy.  And maybe it is crazy.  But, that night, it was totally worth it!
