Rusty and Tommy have been having a hard week. Neither one really feels very well and that always results in more fights than usual.
One such episode happened about lunch time. Tommy came crying into the office where Kevin and I were both working. He crawled into Kevin’s lap and mumbled with tears something about “You know the floor isn’t water. Rusty doesn’t!” Tommy then said that Rusty hit him.
After soothing the poor boy, we sent him on his way. A little later, Rusty came to check on us. Kevin pulled him aside to talk about what had happened with Tommy.
Kevin: “Rusty, what happened with Tommy?”
Rusty: “Nothing!”
Kevin: “Tommy says you hit him. What are we going to do about this?”
Rusty: “I didn’t hit him …. with this hand. [Rusty then held up his right hand.] That’s my strong hand you know.”
Kevin [trying not to laugh]: “It can hurt when we hit with our not strong hand, too, okay. Let’s try to be nicer.”
Rusty: “Okay.”
