Nothing to Play

We believe in technology at our house.  And we believe in outdoor time.  We try to maintain a healthy balance.

We try so hard, that a friend at church today tapped me on the shoulder and complimented me.  He said that he could tell we didn’t have a “bunch of those boys who just sit around playing video games because your boys all have healthy tans … even on the backs of their necks!”

Okay.  Um, thank you, I think.

In light of that, let me share a funny Tommy moment.  That includes video games!

We have a Wii, a couple of tablets, plus 4 Nintendo DS systems.  That’s just the set up for the story.

The boys had been disagreeing and arguing a bit about their video game playing.  I sat them on the couch and asked why they were fighting so much.  I let each boy take a turn.  Ricky explained that they only had one remote for the Wii that worked right, so they couldn’t play at the same time.  Billy mentioned that the tablets often ran out of battery because they weren’t charging them after they played.  Rusty said it was hard taking turns.  And then there is Tommy.

Oh be still my heart.  Tommy.

When it was his turn, Tommy threw both arms out and with tears welling up in his eyes he said, “I don’t have anything to play!”  Then he flopped back on the sofa and wept a little.

I tried hard not to laugh.

Well, maybe not TOO hard.
