February Stuff

February is a crazy month normally, but this year it seemed twice as bad.  I just took a deep breath, put my head down, and held on until March!  3 birthdays, 2 birthday parties, a major  holiday, doctor appointments, Blue and Gold Banquet, PTA events, Time Out for Women, book club, date nights, scouts, and taking care of a friend’s dog … plus, homework, laundry, meals, piano lessons, church callings.  All of that adds up to exhaustion, lots of memories, and being glad when it is all over!

Here are some of those in between moments …

Ricky earned his rank advancement in scouts

We set up a projector and air mattresses in the garage for a movie night with friends

This is before some of the friends came – we ended up with 11 kiddos here that night!  Ricky LOVED the “movie theater” and can’t wait for us to do it again.

Sometimes you have lots of snow and can still only come up with a tiny little snowman!  Tommy didn’t care about size, he was happy!

Other times, you need to fake pout on your toy box in your diaper while you try not to smile … (he does this a lot – and he usually breaks out in a grin really fast!)

Rusty finally got to dig into to a Christmas present he got.  It was a fossil digging set, but made such a mess he had to wait until he could do it outside.

His brothers were happy to help him out!

It took a couple of hours to find the first bone in the plaster, but then things got moving faster!

Rusty was so excited to get the first bone out!  Before long he had a model triceratops to show for his hard work!

These two love to sit in the car carts at the grocery store.  Sometimes there is a bit of pushing and shoving.  Other times, they just snuggle in together.  Sigh.  Melts my heart!

February had some cold and foggy days, so we headed to Arctic Circle to play.

These two ran and slid and slid and ran, then they came to me for fries before going to do it all again!

The suburban needed some work done, so we were a one car family a few days in February.  By the time we picked Kevin up from work, it was late and easier to just grab take-out than make dinner at home.  One evening, we decided to play at Carl’s Jr. instead of just eating in the car on the way home.  We hadn’t been there 5 minutes, when Bobby was crying and my boys were doing the warning cry, “There’s blood!”

IMG_5812

Bobby had tripped and hit his face on the playland.  He’d also cut the inside of his mouth with his teeth.  With all the blood, we weren’t sure if it was two separate wounds or if his tooth had just gone all the way through.  Did I mention a lot of blood?  Anyway, I took him in to the doctor and it was declared two separate wounds.  His outside one was glued closed and we just had to wait for the inside one to heal.  It took a couple of weeks – much longer than we had anticipated.  Now he’s got a cool little lightning bolt scar (which our Harry Potter fans admire).

For my birthday, my wonderful friend Shelly sent me this picture of us on a trip to Disneyland when we were 20 and single.  I love it!

Bobby loves the TV.  It is his favorite thing.

I was able to attend Time Out for Women with my friend Shanae (and my mom, sister, and aunt).  Shanae and I started going together 8 years ago – we laugh.  A lot.

Kevin and I went to “Flight Night” together.  It is a late night event at his work where you can watch a test missile being launched on the screen.  You get to see the control room and blast off and re-entry and the stats … it was quite fascinating.  It was a late event – the missile didn’t launch until almost 1 am, but it was an educational evening and quite enlightening.  I had never paid attention to what my own dad’s career was, but he worked on the Minute Man Missile – the same type I was watching being test launched.  I learned a lot that night about my husband and my father’s careers!

We had Healthy Hearts Day for PE in preschool during February.  I had the kids feel their heartbeat while resting and then after exercising.  But if I’m going to make them exercise, I’ve got to give them a sweatband!  And if my students get a sweatband, my 2 year old needs one too!

So does my 5 year old and his friend …

I hope this big orange cat lives forever because this little boy absolutely loves him!
