Last Days of Summer

Summer is always so fun to look forward to, but by August, this momma is looking forward to the routine school brings.  We tried to do a few fun things to send summer off with a bang this year …

I love him!

Birthday parties seemed like a good way to end summer.  One of the boys best friends (Mason in the blue) had a party at the park.  Tommy loved the noise maker (in the brown)!

Not just a party in the park, a pizza party in the park!  We have good friends!

All the kids were invited, so I stayed, too.  Bobby sometimes needs a little more supervision than the others! 🙂

Registration day at the junior high was way more traumatic for me than it was for Ricky!  SO many unknowns sending this oldest of mine off to the jungles of junior high!  The school is built very similar to my own junior high, so I was able to help him find his way around.  AND it only took a few minutes for him to master his locker! (I think I’ll go start teaching Billy how to open a combination lock right now …)

Someday my boys may not want to spend time together.  For now though, they seem to really love each other!  I try to catch moments like this – all of the cozied up together on the couch – when I can.  It makes my heart happy!

Kevin and I took a rare mid-week long date.  We had to drive down to the Walmart in Heber to retrieve our now fixed suburban (recall the Dinosaur Monument camping trip post).  We enjoyed visiting with each other on the drive.

Then we went to a fun little restaurant right off the freeway before heading home.  It would have been an even better date if we’d ridden home in the same car, but things aren’t usually perfect!

The real end of summer event was Ricky’s birthday party!  It kept getting put off and put off until it was the last Saturday of summer and we FINALLY had it!  Ricky had a pizza and movie party!  There was also a lot of cotton candy because I was practicing with the cotton candy maker for Back to School Night.  The boys actually ate almost all of this …

A few of his friends couldn’t make it, but we had Tysen, Jacob, Tyler, and Hyrum over.

They ate pizza, gave Ricky gifts, played around outside, and then the main event was watching “Jurassic Park.”  We were going to project it outside, but the mosquitoes were so bad, we opted for the garage.  The boys didn’t seem to mind at all.

Back to School Night was the night before school started and PTA’s big event!  So the night before that night, our friends the Bucks came over and helped make all the cotton candy and popcorn that would be sold at Back to School Night.  Over 200 bags of cotton candy and 150 bags of popcorn …

They are good friends and we had a good time and I only burned one batch of popcorn!

And like that … summer was over.  Lazy days and sunshine and Netflix marathons will have to wait 9 more months.  Well, for the kids anyway …

There you go!
