The Week Before

I am a big fan of chronological order.  Therefore, before I start with the fun we’ve had this weekend, I must catch up.

A week ago, Kevin took Ricky and Billy to their first movie at a movie theater.  They saw Toy Story 3 and the boys absolutely loved it.  They had a big bag of popcorn (which Billy has learned is really called popcorn), they sat in the back and waved hello to the projector man, and when the movie was  bit intense, they climbed onto Kevin’s lap.   It was such a success, that they’ve been playing Toy Story for the last week and a half!

Here’s Billy watching the movie …

Ricky has had the chance to do a couple of little summer camps this year.  One was a morning a the Ogden Nature Center learning about nature’s builders.   When Kevin picked him up, there was a row of children with foam beaver teeth and tails waiting for their parents.  Ricky loved this camp.   He saw a turtle cave and a bear cave and went on a hike and saw a whole village of bird houses … he was only there for 3 hours, but to hear him tell it, he was there for weeks.

The other camp he’s been doing is at one of our friend’s preschool.  She calls it Summer Adventures and there are kids ages 5 to 9 there.    Ricky gets to go four different times and has been enjoying this one as well.  The first day I picked him up and asked him what his favorite part was.  I thought he’d say one of the art projects or stories that she’d done with the kids.  Nope.  Ricky’s favorite part of that first day was his Spiderman popcicle and chasing the teacher’s older son during their recess!

Rusty loves to read.  Usually, if I can’t hear him playing, it is because he’s climbed into the rocker in his room with a pile of books to look through.  He adores books!   This makes it difficult to keep them on the shelves or in the baskets we have throughout our house …  The other day, I found him enjoying his book time here:

I guess he felt the cats needed a naptime story!   All three kitties were on site for his reading of Goodnight, Moon.

Next – what happens when you leave a 3 year old on the deck with a paper plate full of blue paint, a big roll of paper, and the instructions, “have fun finger painting”?    This …

I have nieces who are 20 (almost) and 18.   When they were just little girls, I remember helping my brother put together a swing set in my mom’s backyard for them.  Last year, my mom finally got a new swing set, but this old one didn’t get demolished.  My boys will have absolutely NOTHING to do with the new one.  Seriously.  They don’t care for any part of it.  They always go back to the old one.

Well, age and weather have not been kind to the old swing set.  It is starting to rust badly and wasps have taken up residency in the poles.  It has gotten to the point where it is no longer safe and this last week, it was demolished.  The boys had to have pictures taken with it before the sad day …

This is Ricky really, really wanting his picture taken with the swing, but afraid to sit on it because he knows wasps live inside.

And finally, their favorite swing.  This was usually their first stop in the backyard.  It was also what caused the demolition.   The side Billy is sitting on had rusted off of its screws and was dangling freely.  Even taking this picture was a practice in balance.

Good-bye old blue swing set!  The boys will miss you!

Anybody want a barely touched, year old green swing set?  Going fairly cheap … you haul it away!
